General Scholarship Fund
Donations from Franklin Alumni, faculty, friends of the Foundation and several fundraising efforts have increased the minimum scholarship from $50 in 1962 to $900 in the current year. The criteria for consideration for this scholarship include GPA, financial need, and community/school service.

Dr. Sammy Lee Memorial Scholarship Fund
Dr Sammy Lee, FHS Class of 1939, was Student Body President. He received his BA from Occidental College in 1943 and his medical degree from USC in 1947. He was the first Asian American to win back-to-back Olympic gold medals in diving in 1948 and 1952. He retired from the US Army as a Major in 1955. This Scholarship is awarded to an outstanding student athlete.

Don Palus Scholarship Fund
Don Palus taught at Franklin for more than 29 years, specializing in teaching Advanced Placement biology and chemistry courses, a challenge for both him and his students. Mr. Palus found deep satisfaction in the AP exam scores of his students – his pass rate was more than 97%! This Scholarship is awarded to an outstanding student pursuing studies in the sciences.

Hess/Spangler Memorial Scholarship Fund
The Hess/Spangler Scholarship was established by members of Franklin High School’s 1950s LA City-wide championship football team to honor two former football coaches. This Scholarship is awarded to a college bound senior scholar athlete.

Police Chief Daryl Gates Memorial Scholarship Fund
Police Chief Daryl Gates, FHS class of 1944. He received his BS from USC in Public Administration, joined the LAPD in 1948 and served as Police Chief from 1978-1992. This scholarship is awarded to a student who is interested in public administration or law enforcement.

Linda Starliper Scholarship Fund
Linda Starliper was an educator at Franklin High School for over twenty years. She was an English teacher, a counselor and ultimately the Magnet Coordinator. She earned the love and respect of both her peers and the students she served. Students who reflect her love of learning and concern for others are granted the Linda Starliper Award.
